I wanted to share some tips with you, as it can be tricky to know how to best utilise your accountant to help your business grow. You may not know this, but your accountant is a gold mine of knowledge, not just about communicating with HMRC and the tax world (we often get to speak with someone straight away thanks to being able to contact the HMRC on a dedicated agent line) but we also get to know a lot about your business.
This means we can see the areas in which you can grow, change your outgoings, and spot any ways in which you can save money within your company.
This is because we are dedicated to checking your profit and loss on a regular basis. It is our duty, as your accountants, to look at the numbers and help you to see them in a way that makes it accessible and understandable.
Not everyone loves numbers as much as we do, we get that, and that’s why we want to ensure all of our business clients get the opportunity to really understand the numbers in a way that works for them.
Using our knowledge and experience, and as business owners ourselves, we can see that there are areas some clients can make a massive change to their profits, with only a few changes of outgoings, tax reliefs you can use, and other areas within your financial side of your business.
So, how can an accountant make a difference to your business?
Accountancy practices, like our own, offer a host of services over and above the normal returns and annual reports, such as regular meetings, proactive financial controller services, and management reports that can help you as a business owner look over the financial side of your business that you may not have the time to dive into without the help of someone who knows the industry inside out.
So my tip for you is to find an accountant that you would like to see and meet with, and occasionally call - there must be a chemistry between you, as they will be a part of your team for years to come!
A good accountant will call you to see how you are doing before you even think to need to call them, as it is their job to become a partner and advisor in your business. The person you choose should not hesitate to share their advice with you if you can improve a process or a part of your business within their expertise.
As a business owner, you shouldn’t have to put all the pressure on yourself to do everything in your business, and as someone who totally understands the need to delegate (and how tricky it can sometimes be), starting with areas such as accounting, can be an excellent start in the process to getting support around you that will ultimately help your business to grow with your own goals and strategies for your business.
