The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) Portal Update

August 14, 2022

We were delighted to hear that today it was announced by HMRC that the portal opening date for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme is due to be the 20th April 2020.This portal has been created for businesses to submit their furlough employee salary claims so they can reclaim 80% or up to £2,500 per month (whichever is lower) of their employee's wages and receive a grant so that the company can stay afloat during this crisis, and so the employee can receive a wage until they are brought back to work.HMRC will be contacting businesses and Agents to inform them of the next steps to take and how they can submit their claim through the portal, and will be expected to do this themselves without phone support from HMRC. They have specifically advised that there will be guidance for people to use within the portal so they can ensure they submit correctly, but due to such high demand from companies and businesses, they are unable to assist over the phone on this subject. In order to be suitable for the scheme you must have:

  • created and started a PAYE payroll scheme on or before 28 February 2020
  • enrolled for PAYE online - this can take up to 10 days
  • a UK bank account

Any entity with a UK payroll can apply, including businesses, charities, recruitment agencies and public authorities. We will continue to keep you updated through our blog and through our Instagram profile, as well as sharing live Q&A sessions each Thursday at 2pm for businesses to join and ask questions as well as receive the latest updates for the week, which you can visit here.
