Why are the off-payroll reports being observed by HMRC?

August 14, 2022

Lately, quite a lot of errors have surfaced in these reports including employees who are reimbursing student or postgraduate loans. In particular, in utilizing a payroll system for an off-payroll employee, organizations and payroll authorities are:

  • picking the student or postgraduate loan repayment identifier where the employee has such a loan; or
  • choosing the off-payroll identifier for non-off payroll employees, i.e. standard workers, who have a student or postgraduate loans.

In the former example, this leads to exaggerated deductions from the employee’s salary, and in the latter, not adequate deductions.Tip. In case you have mistakenly chosen the student/postgraduate loan identifier for an off-payroll salary, send a manager salary outline rectifying the mistake and refund leading to overpayments to the work. If you have mistakenly chosen the off-payroll worker identifier, ensure it is not applied to you on your next payroll.Ensure that if you’re paying an employee based on the off-payroll rules you have not chosen the student/postgraduate loan identifier. Also, make sure that the off-payroll identifier has not been chosen for normal workers.
